Call for Abstracts
Abstracts for the 13th Arctic Ungulate Conference (AUC): Challenges of Managing Northern Ungulates can be submitted online, as of October 31, 2010. Abstracts will be limited to 300 words. The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to May 31, 2011. The AUC Working Group will let you know if your abstract has been accepted as a poster or oral presentation by June 30th, 2011. Instructions on how to prepare your poster or oral presentation will be available online in
June 2011.
The 13th AUC is an excellent opportunity for biologists, managers, Aboriginal groups, co-management boards, researchers, students and resource users to discuss northern ungulate research and management with their circumpolar peers. As such, the AUC Working Group will consider any abstract that falls under the following subject areas:
- Importance of caribou and reindeer to Aboriginal peoples and the involvement of Aboriginal peoples in the management of caribou and reindeer (TK Management Session)
- Status of ungulate populations across their arctic ranges
- Comparison of caribou and reindeer co-management across the circumpolar north
- Population dynamics and management
- Animal Health: disease, parasites, and contaminants
- Nutrition, physiology, and body condition
- Behaviour, genetics, and evolution
- Range and habitat ecology
- Impact of climate change and increasing human footprint on northern ungulates
- Predator-prey relationships
- Harvest management
- Survey techniques and analysis
Conference proceedings will be published online in a Special Issue of the journal Rangifer. Both full manuscripts and extended abstracts (short 2-3 page pieces providing more details than the original 300 word abstract) will be considered for publication. All submissions will go through a formal peer-review process so please note that acceptance of a presentation for the conference does not guarantee acceptance in the proceedings. Please let us know if you plan on submitting a manuscript or extended abstract to Rangifer when submitting your abstract. Manuscripts for peer review should be submitted prior to the start of the conference to ensure that the proceedings can be published in a timely manner. Submission guidelines will follow Rangifer.
