Northern Arts & Cultural Centre

Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre

The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) holds in trust for the public a large collection of objects that represent the peoples and cultures of the NWT, and produces exhibitions that tell stories about the land, people and history of the NWT. However, the PWNHC is "more than a museum". In addition to its exhibits, collections and conservation programs, the PWNHC houses the NWT Archives, provides technical, logistic and financial support to individuals and organizations involved in cultural activities and the arts, and authorizes archaeological studies in the NWT.

The NWT Arts and Fine Crafts

The NWT Arts and Fine Crafts is a database of the NWT arts community. The database includes online listings, services as well as programs available to artists.

Boating
In the North Slave region, we have four months of open water from June through September. With 18 to 20 hour days, Great Slave Lake and hundreds of smaller lakes right on the doorstep. Rent a canoe or kayak, windsurf on Back Bay, charter a motor boat or a sailboat. You can go fishing with a guide, or take a dinner cruise on one of our fully equipped tour boats.

Tourism

The Northern Frontier Visitor Centre

An excellent source of travel and tourism information about Yellowknife, and the Tli Cho communities north of Great Slave Lake.

The Northwest Territories is a land of contrasts. It is 1.17 million square kilometres of mountains, forests and tundra threaded by wild, clean rivers feeding thousands of pristine lakes. Over 40,000 people live in the NWT amid this rugged natural beauty. It is spectacular here.

Why not extend your Yellowknife trip to include a visit to more of the NWT. The GNWT-operated Visitor Information Centres
provide a number of services, depending on the locale. They offer reception and information to incoming visitors about the regions and the NWT in general. These Centres also offer interpretive and educational services through interpretive displays and exhibits on the natural and cultural heritage of the region and the NWT in general.
